On Island Time: Exploring Oahu, Hawaii

Ever since I was a kid I had dreams of visiting Hawaii. I think watching Lilo & Stitch really sealed the deal for me. I know that is super cliche but it’s true. I’ve always been intrigue by the island way of life and Hawaii truly is such a magical place to visit. We spent a few days on two of the islands and I hope to one day visit them all.

WHERE TO STAY

When most people think of Hawaii, I’m sure they picture Waikiki Beach. So, of course, that is where we choose to stay. We picked the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa and while it was a little dated on the inside, we did enjoy the globalist lounge perks and loved the balcony with the ocean view.

MUST SEE: OAHU, HAWAII

  • Royal Hawaiian Center – If you are looking for local boutiques and unique souvenirs, this is the place to be. They also have high end retailers, and restaurants making this a great way to spend an evening.
  • Dole Plantation – Take a stroll through the gardens and grab some dole whip!
  • Haleiwa – Head over to the town of Haleiwa, otherwise known as the North Shore, home of the famous waves, surf shops and farmers markets.
  • Polynesian Cultural Center – Learn about the history and culture of the Polynesian Islands in a unique way.
  • Kualoa Ranch – My top thing to do in Oahu! We had so much fun on the UTV Raptor Tour. The ranch is incredible and the views are insane!
  • Waikiki Beach – Whether you are going for a swim or catching the sunset, you’ll have to make sure to visit this iconic beach.

MUST EAT: OAHU, HAWAII

  • Matsumoto Shave Ice – Wanting a sweet treat? You’ve got to head to the North Shore and grab some of the iconic shave iced. Make sure to add the mochi balls.
  • Seven Brothers – These burgers are the best on the island. I recommend trying the Spencer burger and Paniolo fries (topped with grilled pineapple, onions, cheese and bbq sauce)
  • Monkeypod Kitchen – The service alone would make me come back to this restaurant. The food was also incredible. Definitely check out the kalua pork & pineapple pizza and coconut cream pie!

Hi, I’m anna!

In 2020 my husband and I decided we didn’t want to wait until retirement age to travel. We’ve started to slowly travel around the world while navigating our adventures around a corporate job. We’ve gained quite the “travel reputation” and our family & friends are always asking where we’re off to next!
